Inter–District Cross Country Championships
The earliest record we have of a woman's fixture promoted by the SWCCU took place in Fauldhouse on 8/1/1972. We also have results for men's races from 1959 to 1962. It is however not clear if this was the beginning of the event.
A Scotland v Scottish Universities fixture in December in the 1960s often included the presence of a Northern Ireland team. This seniors only race continued until season 1992-3. Other teams were added from time to time like the Scottish Banks, Civil Service, Scottish Police and Scottish Local Authorities.
The SCCU East District minutes of March 1980 noted a request to hold and Inter–District match. At the May meeting Ian Clifton announced that races for Senior Boys and Youths would be held in season 1980-1 on the 13th December 1980 at Stirling University on the basis of a 1 year trial. Junior Boys were added the following year and a Senior Championship was added in 1987-8 at St Andrews University. The senior races were 1 event with separate scoring.
